Hotel, Establishment that provides paid lodging, usually on a short-term basis. The provision of basic accommodation, in times past, consisting only of a room with a bed, a cupboard, a small table and a washstand has largely been replaced by rooms with modern facilities. Some hotels offer various combinations of meals as part of a room and board arrangement. source from wikipedia |

Prioritize your needs. Focus on hotels that will best meet your needs. Amenities, location, and price all come into play in making a determination, but do you care about a spa you won't use, a pool when it's the beach you're after, or that the clientele is all under 25? Do you want anonymity or the coziness of a small bed-and-breakfast? Luxury or rustic simplicity? A splurge or a super-saver? Look at photos online, ask around for recommendations, check user reviews at Fodors.com or call the hotel and ask them to explain what they've got to offer and who or what age their regular customers are.
Know what facilities are included in the price. Bathroom facilities in B&Bs and in hotels in France determine price. In France, state your preference for shower (douche) or tub (baignoire)-the latter always costs more. If you want a double bed, you should request one (lit matrimoniale in France); in many places twin beds are still common. If you're counting on air-conditioning or an in-room safe, ask if there's a surcharge. Staying in a remote jungle lodge? A Japanese ryokan? It might be tough to know what to expect, and your assumptions may be way off. For exotic and unique properties, it's even more important to call the property or do a little research if you don't like surprises.
Ask whether there's a restaurant or room service. Many lodgings offer room service, but not necessarily 24 hours a day. Moderately priced business-oriented hotels often keep menus of local restaurants that will deliver to your room.
Expect to forego some basics at budget hotels. Most hotels have in-room phones, for example, but double-check this at inexpensive properties, especially if you are traveling outside the United States. The same goes for TVs and airconditioning. Most hotels and motels have in-room TVs, often with cable, in the United States, but the terms change when outside North America. International chain hotels tend to be the most predictable in terms of what in-room amenities you can expect.
Find a room is rarely difficult. In larger towns street signs point to a zona hoteleria and in smaller ones they'll be clustered along the Transpeninsular Highway. The only times you're likely to have a big problems finding smoewhere to stay are in coastal resorts over the peak Christmas season, at Eaaster, on Mexican holidays and almost anywhere during a local fiesta when it's well worth trying to reserve ahead.
